Processes

Gerlach is best known for his wet plate collodion ambrotypes and tintypes shot in the field using ultra large format cameras.  You are encouraged to bring your own cameras and lenses as this will facilitate learning, however you are welcome to use Gerlach's for the workshop if you do not yet own the proper technology.

Platinum, kallitype, collotype, salt, albumen and carbon printing are also available. Please do not hesitate to be in touch if there is a process you are interested in that you do not see listed.

Location

If you live in the greater Los Angeles area, workshops will be conducted at Gerlach's favorite locations in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. If this is inconvenient, the workshop can come to you. With Gerlach's dark room bus, even the wet plate workshop is ready to travel. Additional fees will be arranged upon request.

Duration

Gerlach encourages multi-day workshops to move beyond the elementary basics of a process and to develop good practice and deep understanding. This is essential for confidence as you bring these skills into your own photographic practice.
